Eman Alrifai Advocates and Legal Consultants ("ERLaw", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This Policy explains how we collect and use personal data through the website erlaw.ae (the "Website"), in line with Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data (the "PDPL") and our professional duty of confidentiality as advocates.

1. Who is responsible

ERLaw is the controller of the personal data described in this Policy. Contact details are at the end of this Policy.

2. Data we collect

• Contact form: your name, email address, phone number, the practice area you select, your preferred language and your message.
• Consultation bookings: your name, email address, phone number, the date and time you choose, your time zone, the answers you give about your matter and any guest email addresses you add.
• Live chat: your name and email address, the messages you send and receive, the page you were on and basic technical information (IP address and browser type).
• Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and approximate location derived from your IP address, used to keep the Website secure and to understand how it is used.

Please do not send special categories of personal data (for example health data or details of criminal proceedings) through the Website unless we ask you to.

3. Why we use your data

• To respond to your enquiry and to arrange and hold consultations (taking steps at your request before entering into an engagement).
• To run conflict checks before accepting instructions (our legal and professional obligations).
• To keep the Website and our systems secure and to prevent abuse (our legitimate interests).
• To send you booking confirmations and reminders.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for marketing without your consent.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Website uses strictly necessary storage to function, for example to remember your language and to keep your live-chat conversation open between pages (stored in your browser's local storage). We measure Website usage in aggregate to improve our content. You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings; some features, such as the live chat, may then not work.

5. Who we share data with

Your data is accessed only by authorised ERLaw personnel who need it. We use trusted service providers to host the Website and our systems, deliver email and notifications, and provide booking functionality; they process data only on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations. We may disclose data where required by UAE law or by a competent court or authority.

6. International transfers

Some of our service providers may process data outside the UAE. Where this happens we take the steps required by the PDPL to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection.

7. How long we keep data

• Enquiries, chat conversations and bookings that do not lead to an engagement: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymised.
• Where you become a client: for the period required by law and by our professional obligations for client files.
• Security and technical logs: up to 12 months.

8. Your rights

Subject to the PDPL, you may request access to your personal data, its correction or erasure, restriction of or objection to its processing, and a copy of the data you provided to us. You may withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below; we may need to verify your identity. You may also lodge a complaint with the UAE Data Office.

9. Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and encryption of sensitive fields. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please avoid sending confidential documents through the Website.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. The version published on the Website applies from the date shown above.
